PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the image compression method by which a code quantity after compression is made close to an object code quantity in JPEG(joint photographic experts group) image compression method. SOLUTION: In the image compressor provided with an image signal input section 1, a data storage section 2, an image compression section 3 that applies JPEG compression to a received digital image and a compression image output section 4, a code quantity outputted in the case of entropy coding of each block consisting 8×8 pixels being components of an image is monitored. Based on the quantity, a high frequency component number disregarded in a succeeding block is adjusted so as to approach the code quantity after compression to an object code quantity. |
