An installation for the production of glass fibre, notably insulating fibre, comprising a glass melting furnace (3), a drying oven (7) for thermally treating the glass fibres, arranged downstream of the furnace (3), and a generating set (13). The generating set (13) comprises a gas turbine (15) producing hot gases with a temperature greater than 400 deg C at its outlet. The outlet from the gas turbine (15) is connected to the drying oven (7) to provide the necessary heat for the thermal treatment of the glass fibre. The glass melting furnace (3) may be one which is fed with oxygen and the electricity generated by the gas turbine (15) is used for the production of the oxygen or it may be an electric furnace that directly uses the electricity generated by the gas turbine (15).
