The ionization chamber consists of a cylindrical or flat HT electrode (1) to which a high tension voltage is applied, a signal electrode (2) for sampling a current of neutrons, and a compensating electrode (3) with a compensating current applied to it. The electrodes are positioned concentrically in the order indicated and are separated by gaps of predetermined size. Part of the signal electrode has a series of holes (9) with an area totaling not more than 5 per cent of the electrode's surface, and with a distance between adjacent holes equivalent to at least double the distance between signal and compensating electrodes.
