PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which has high reflectivity to light of a prescribed wavelength and an excellent signal output characteristic and allows recording and reproducing without reading-out destruction and an optical recording and reproducing method. SOLUTION: This optical recording medium has the constitution sequentially formed with at least a translucent reflection layer 2, a recording layer 3 contg. dyestuffs for absorbing recording light, an intermediate layer 4 and a reflection layer 5 on a transparent substrate 1 and (ε=ε1 -iε2 ), ε2 when the real part of the complex specific dielectric constant E of the recording layer at the recording wavelength of recording light and the reproducing waveform of reproducing light is defined as ε1 and the imaginary part thereof as ε2 satisfy ε2 >=5. The reflectivity of the optical recording medium when the light below the recording wavelength of the recording light in such an arrangement is made incident from the substrate side is >=20%. This optical recording and reproducing method uses such medium. |
