PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a radiation image pickup device which suppresses crosstalk between pixels, and has high resolution and detection efficiency. SOLUTION: Potentials of photoelectric conversion parts 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d can be held constant irrelevantly to generated charge quantities by pixels of CdTe5 by always opening period gates 2a, 2b, 2c, and 2d where signal charges 10 are generated at CdTe4 by being irradiated with X rays. An electric field applied to CdTe5 is therefore held constant and electric charges generated at respective pixels are accumulated in corresponding vertical transfer parts 3a, 3b, 3c, and 3d, so crosstalk of electric charges to adjacent and circumferential pixels is suppressed.
