PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure sure address discharge with a proper voltage corresponding to the kinds of phosphor to thereby provide a stable image without being influenced by the selection of phosphor kinds by setting a voltage applied to an address electrode to a value corresponding to the discharge characteristic of each address electrode including phosphor. SOLUTION: A voltage impressed to an address electrode is changed according to the kind of phosphor. In a cell applied with an address pulse 7-9 to a scan pulse 4, address discharge generates, then plus and minus charge particles are accumulated on dielectrics in the vicinity of Y electrode and X electrode, and a continuous discharge generates with a first maintaining discharge pulse 5, a Y maintaining discharge pulse 6 and an X maintaining discharge pulse emitted subsequently. At this time since a discharge voltage generating between the address electrode and the Y electrode differs according to the kind (color) of phosphor, a proper voltage is applied for each color according to the discharge voltage. Accordingly a stable operation is ensured. |
