PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge-lamp lighting device and a lighting system capable of properly preheating an electrode and properly suppressing the value of current flowing through the electrode while a lamp is on, while to realize reduction in size and reduction in cost by reducing the number of part items. SOLUTION: Control windings 9-1, 9-2 and an electrode-preheating winding 10 are magnetically coupled to an inductor 6 for current limiting. Before a discharge lamp 8 is lit, an electrode 8-1 is preheated by voltage of the electrode- preheating winding 10. When the electrode has been heated and a discharge- starting state is reached in relation to applied voltage, the discharge lamp is lit. After the discharge lamp is started up, voltage applied to the inductor becomes lower with voltage across the discharge lamp lowering to the lamp voltage. The voltage of the electrode-preheating winding is thereby lowered and the value of current flowing through the electrode is suppressed while the lamp is on. |
