The parasol, equipped with a shaft with a spike (46) on its tip for driving into the ground, incorporates a sliding weight (43) on a tube (42) above the spike which is operated manually to strike a stop (44) connected to the spike. A variant of the design with automatic mechanical operation has a gear-driven cam inside the shaft, driven by an electric motor to strike the top of the spike, which is held against the cam by a spring. The shaft can also be fitted with different-sized spiral screws or a folding tripod in place of the spike.
