FILTER DISC CAKE REMOVAL USING A SUCTION ASSEMBLY

A suction generating assembly (69) employing suction heads (77) is disclosed for removal of filter cake from the surface (59) of a filter disc (19). The suction generating assembly (69) includes a positive displacement pump (72) driven by a motor (73). In operation, suction heads (77) draw filtered water from the effluent chambers (57) through the filter material (21) in a direction reverse to the normal filtering direction, thereby removing accumulated solids.
