End connecting process for two webs of material

The end connecting process joins the end of one web (19) to the beginning of another web (20) with the edges impacted against each other. The holding device used has a suction surface (23, 25) for each web. The heads (16,18) can move relative to each other. The first web is held fast and cut along a cut line to create the first impact edge. The second web is then overlapped with it, held fast and cut along the same cut line to create the second impact edge.
