The invention relates to a method and device for an electroerosive geometrically precise machining of a work piece. The invention is especially valuable for carrying out fine machining, for example, for obtaining precise surfaces with Ra < 0.1 mu m. The invention provides an intermittent operating method in which erosion impulses are both utilized with a predominant removing function and with a predominant measuring function. As a result, an upper boundary is obtained in the range of better than 1 mu m when the wire is cut. The invention is suited for machining in the range of micrometers but can also be utilized for normal applications. The invention permits a shorter machining time, a higher precision and a better reproducibility.
