The engine has at least one gas exchange valve (2) per cylinder (1) and also an injection valve (3), which is adjacent to the gas exchange valve in the combustion chamber head (4), which has a projection (7) into the combustion chamber where the injection valve is positioned. The injection valve can thus be built in more deeply so that the fuel jet (S) is injected further into the chamber. Carbonization of the injection valve tip (6) is reduced.
