In a control device for a toothed change gear, a gearshift element (9), a selector element (10), a mobile element (11) mounted in an exclusively axial direction relative to a housing, an auxiliary mechanism (14) for converting a reciprocating motion into a rotary motion, a brake (13) connected to the speed selecting element, as well as a locking device (19) that can be engaged and disengaged, are operatively linked in such a way that two of the three aforementioned elements are mounted so as to rotate together with the housing or so as to remain axially static and are connected to the third element by means of the auxiliary mechanism. A stationary gear-shifting gate can be provided (43) for the toothed change gear individually or together with an alternation locking gate used as a brake or locking device for the gearshift element (9).
