Portable tactile display used by blind people

The display elements are pins (2) which may lock in two stable positions to store information for any length of time. Triggering is activated on each line by a controller (3) with just a few adjusting elements (7) like electromagnets or piezo actuators. By moving the controller each pin is first pushed by a cylinder (5) and locked in position. Adjusting elements unlock only the countersunk pins, drawing them down using an elastic element. This produces a relief effect that can be felt by the user's fingers.
