An apparatus for continuously casting a molten metal, particularly, a method and apparatus for controlling the level of the molten metal during the continuous casting of the molten metal, characterized in that the continuous casting apparatus comprises a mold in which the molten metal is poured and solidified, an eddy current-type melt level sensor for detecting the level of the molten metal in the mold, an electromagnetic coil arranged to surround the mold, and a power source for energizing the electromagnetic coil to generate a pulse magnetic field, wherein there are provided a mechanism for taking out a pulse trigger signal corresponding to the pulse magnetic field from the power source, and a mechanism for controlling the level detection timing of the melt level sensor based upon the pulse trigger signal.
