A divider plate preferably made of flat plastic sheet inserted into built up channels on the upper and lower sides and bottom of a multigang box is disclosed. The channels are strategically placed within the multigang box to allow the divider plate, when inserted, to create distinct and separate single gang openings. The channel walls form, with the edges of the divider plate, a triple layer barrier protection against wires from one opening from entering an adjacent opening, such as through a gap between the divider and the box. In another embodiment, the multigang box is molded with a groove to accept the divider plate. Also disclosed is a divider plate permanently embedded in the box, as by adhesive or integrally molding, to divide compartments while eliminating the potential for gaps to exist.
