PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel excavator and a tunnel excavating method making continuous excavation possible without making the inside of the excavator narrow, with excellent directional controllability of a front body, a middle body and a rear body in the case of excavating a steep curve, for instance. SOLUTION: A skin plate 2 is bendably divided in a front body 5, a middle body 6 and a rear body 7, and these front body 5, middle body 6 and rear body 7 are provided with grippers 13-15. An articulated thrust jack 10 is provided between the front body 6 and middle body 6, and a thrust jack 11 is provided between the middle body 6 and rear body 7. The stroke quantity of the articulated thrust jack 10 and thrust jack 11 is controlled to always advance the front body 5 while taking excavating reaction by either one of the grippers 14, 15 of the middle body 6 and rear body 7. |
