PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a width enlargement work execution method for a shield machine making work simple and efficient while making it safe with a low possibility of the peripheral ground falling down. SOLUTION: A width enlargement work execution method for a shield machine comprises a first process of protruding copy cutters 31, 32 from the width contracted state of lateral excavating blocks 5, 7 and lateral construction blocks 9, 11 to excavate while carrying out an outbreak of only the distance corresponding to the length of a front body part, a second process of excavating up the width enlargement required width while performing width enlargement of the front body part and the outbreak simultaneously after the first process, a third process of stopping the width enlargement of the front body pat and excavating while carrying out the outbreak of only the distance corresponding to the length of the front body part after the second process, and a fourth process of enclosing the copy cutters 31, 32 and enlarging the width of the front body part by the required quantity to excavate. |
