<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply obtain 1-hexadecyloxy-4-pivaloyloxybenzene derivative and in an industrially excellent manner by the reaction of a 4-pivaloyloxyphenol derivative with cetyl bromide in a hydrophobic organic solvent in the presence of an alkali carbonate and a phase-transfer catalyst. SOLUTION: This derivative shown by formula II is obtained by the reaction of 4-pivaloyloxyphenol derivative shown by formula I (R is a tertiary alkyl) with cetyl bromide at a molar ratio of 1:(0.9-2.0) in a hydrophobic organic solvent (e.g. aromatic hydrocarbon such as toluene and xylene) in the presence of an alkali carbonate e.g. sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate) and a phase- transfer catalyst (e.g. a quaternary ammonium salt such as tetrabutylammonium bromicle). preferably under the atmosphere of an inner gas (e.g. nitrogen gas, argon gas) in the presence of a small amount of water at 80-120 deg.C or so.</p> |
