PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a zirconia amorphous refractory having increased infiltration resistance to slag, erosion resistance to the slag, and extremely improved tolerance by using zirconia as a main component and adding carbon, silicon carbide and silica flour thereto. SOLUTION: This zirconia-based amorphous refractory consisting essentially of zirconia and contains 3-20 wt.% carbon for improving infiltration resistance to slag and tolerance, 2-10 wt.% silicon carbide acting as an antioxidant of the carbon and having <=100 μm particle diameter and 0.3-2.0 wt.% silica flour acting as a hydration retardant and having <=10 μm particle diameter. A pulverized material of a zirconia-carbon-based brick including >=50 wt.% zirconia is used singly or in combination with the zirconia by regulating the content of the carbon so as to be within the range not exceeding 20 wt.%. If necessary, 10 wt.% water-soluble phenol resin can be added as a binder. |
