PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractory showing excellent leaching characteristics and foaming characteristics, suitable for a glass melting furnace by previously melting and preparing a matrix glass phase, supplying the matrix glass phase and one or a mixture of a raw material for forming a crystal phase composed of a corundum phase and a badellyite phase separately to a melting furnace and melting them. SOLUTION: A matrix glass phase is previously melted and prepared. A mixture of the matrix glass phase and a raw material for forming a badellyite phase are separately supplied to a melting furnace. The supply of the previously separately prepared raw materials to the melting furnace is more effectively carried out by a means for melting one raw material and supplying the other raw material, or may be carried out by a means for melting a first raw material (A), supplying and melting a second raw material (B), successively supplying the first raw material (A) or further a third raw material (C) or a means for supplying three or more raw materials separately, etc. The chemical composition of a matrix glass to be previously melt is 65-90 wt.% of SiO2 , <=20 wt.% of Al2 O3 , 2-20 wt.% of ZrO2 and 5-15 wt.% of Na2 O. Preferably an oxidizing agent is added. |
