PCT No. PCT/GB94/01174 Sec. 371 Date Mar. 1, 1996 Sec. 102(e) Date Mar. 1, 1996 PCT Filed May 31, 1994 PCT Pub. No. WO94/28171 PCT Pub. Date Dec. 8, 1994An assay procedure to quantify the amount of starting template in a nucleic acid amplification procedure such as PCR involves trying the amplification in the presence of varying amounts of a nucleic acid analogue which in sufficient quantity will inhibit said amplification procedure by selective interaction with a nucleic acid species present, e.g. a PNA as described in WO-02/20703. The amount of template is given by the amount of nucleic acid analogue critical to cause failure of said amplification procedure.
