PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing the subject compound by which the subject compound is efficiently prepared by a one-pot reaction in a short time with good operability by heating diazatriphenylpentadiene and an alkali metal hydroxide in an alcohol solvent. SOLUTION: (A) 2,4-Diaza-1,3,5-triphenyl-1,4-pentadiene of formula I and (B) an alkali metal hydroxide or an alkali metal alkoxide (e.g. sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, sodium methoxide and sodium ethoxide) are heated in an alcohol solvent (e.g. ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol) to provide the objective (±)-2,4r,5t-triphenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole of formula II in the method for preparing the (±)-2,4r,5t-triphenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole. The amount of the component B used is preferably 1-100 mol.% based on the component A. The amount of the component A used in the reactive system is preferably 5-40 mol per litter alcohol solvent and that of the component B is preferably 0.05-40 mol. |
