Treatment of domestic or industrial waste waters, especially washing, bleaching or disinfection liquors containing oxidising agents, comprises contacting the waste water with a catalyst comprising magnesium or an alloy in which magnesium is the major component. The Mg or alloy is in metallic form. The Mg or alloy is not finely divided.
