A movable device to facilitate removal of plants with roots intact from a soil or growing medium is disclosed. The device comprises a rigid hollow shaft (A) used as a probe with one end (B) shaped to facilitate insertion of the device into a soil or growing medium. The other end of the device is connected to a supply of liquid under pressure. The liquid under pressure flows in a controlled manner through the device and is emitted from the device through a hole or holes (C, D, E) located along the length of the shaft of the device and through a hole or holes which can be located in the shaped end of the device. The action of the liquid emitted under pressure from the holes in the device is to saturate and loosen soil or growing medium on and around the roots of a plant targeted for removal to the full depth of the plant's roots in a soil or growing medium, thereby allowing removal of the plants with roots intact. For manual operation, the device can be fitted with a handle (H) incorporating the liquid flow control mechanism. The device can be provided with an additional handle or handles to facilitate insertion of the device into a soil or growing medium when used manually. The device can also be machine-mounted.
