FASTENER MEMBERS AND APPARATUS FOR THEIR FABRICATION

A fastener for engaging loops includes a base (12) with a field of fastener elements molded with an extending from the base (12). The fastener elements are constructed to engage loops of a mating loop component to form a releasable fastener. The fastener elements comprise hooks (19) and spikes (20), interspersed among the hooks (19), which extend at an acute angle from the base (12). By arranging the hooks (19) and spikes (20) in differing directions on the base (12), increased shear strength is provided in corresponding directions. Molds and methods for forming the fastener are also disclosed.
