The invention relates to an electromotive actuator for the steering system of a motor vehicle. The inventive device consists of an electric motor-driven worm gear (6) with a special feature i.e. the shank (14) of the gear (13) is elastically supported in the casing of the gear. The resilience of the elements (22,23) is adjusted to the inner friction of the steering system in such a way that the shaft (14) is initially displaced with the worm (13) by compressing one of said elements (22,23) when the motor (7) starts, whereupon the steering shaft (4) is exclusively actuated. This has a positive influence on power steering control performance.
