<p>The invention provides gas flow detection apparatus (2) comprising a body (4) having at least one gas inlet port (6), at least one gas outlet port (8), and a conduit to carry gas flow from the inlet port (6) to the outlet port (8). The apparatus further comprises a radiation source arranged to project a beam of highly focused light or radiation across or through the conduit and a radiation detector arranged to receive the light or radiation emitted by the radiation source. An opaque member (20) impermeable to the beam is located in the conduit and arranged to move between a rest position (20) in the absence of gas flow through the conduit to an active position (22) in the presence of gas flow. Signal means are interfaced to the radiation detector and arranged to produce a signal when the opaque member is in an active position (22). The invention also provides a related method of detecting gas flow.</p> |
