The system consists of a pair of shutters (17a,17b) incorporated in the engine cowling (2) during normal operation and deployed so that they close behind the engine and direct its thrust forward. The shutters turn on pivots (18a,18b) on fixed lateral structures (16) which also support control and locking systems for the shutters. Before the shutters are deployed, when the engine is in normal operation the shutters' trailing edges are co-planar, lying in a transverse plane perpendicular to the lengthwise geometrical axis of the thrust reverse system and the engine's rotation. The system has two shutters which are offset relative to one another to produce the co-planar alignment of their trailing edges.
