Electro-pneumatic brake control device for locomotives

An electro-pneumatic brake control device has a main container, a pneumatic brake pipe relay and an electro-pneumatic choke which is wired in series with the main container, whereby the relay and the first brake pipe have two flow rates, the second being less than the first. There is an open or closed loop control device which controls the choke according to brake control signals. The control device is designed to adjust the choke for a brake release control signal at the first flow rate and for a brake operation control signal at the second flow rate. It is designed to control the choke in response to the brake release control signal so that it maintains the first flow rate until a specified value of excess pressure has built up in the brake pipe. An Independent claim is included for a method for the control of the brake.
