PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize a reflective type liquid crystal display device using low temperature polycrystal silicon TFT. SOLUTION: A TFT using a low temperature polycrystal silicon thin film as an active layer is formed on a TFT substrate, and plural picture element electrodes consisting of a reflective material such as Al, etc., via an interlayer insulating film to cover the TFT and electrode wiring are formed thereon. The liquid crystal layer is vertically oriented and has a negative dielectric anisotropy as a liquid crystal material, and uses fluorinated liquid crystal molecules having fluorine at least in a side chain. An excellent voltage- transmittance characteristic can be achieved by making the product Δn.d of the double refraction Δn of the liquid crystal layer and the thickness d of the liquid crystal layer to 0.30 or smaller, and it becomes possible to operate the liquid crystal layer enough by the low voltage drive achieved by the polycrystal silicon TFT. |
