PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct decision feedback equalization used in a communication system that employs such coding modulations as trellis coding modulation. SOLUTION: Second signal points produced without the use of coding are distributed in the inside of a signal point transmission stream. An estimated inter-symbol interference component with respect to second signal points that includes a first signal point produced by using a specific coding modulation scheme is produced, depending on tentative decision on the first signal point generated by a Viterbi decoder. Tentative decision with respect to each of the second signal points is made related to each state of the Viterbi decoder by using the estimated inter-symbol interference component received from the decisive feedback equalizer relating to the state, without making direct final decision related to the second signal points. Tentative decision of each of the second signal points is used to extend a survival, path with respect to the related state and to update a path metric. |
