Viscous coupling for steering assistance in car

A viscous coupling has a housing (3,14) with a working chamber (18) and a rotor (4) running in it. Between the wall of the working chamber and the rotor is provided a shearing gap (17) via which by means of a viscous fluid contained in the working chamber, a torque from the housing can be transmitted to the rotor or vice versa. The shearing gap runs in an axial direction. The rotor at its outer periphery and the housing at its inner periphery have a number of peripheral and parallel grooves which can be brought into alignment or otherwise by an axial relative displacement between rotor and housing.
