METHOD OF PRODUCING INFECTION-FREE PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATIONS AND/OR FOODSTUFFS FROM INFECTIOUS MATERIAL, PARTICULAR MATERIAL CONTAINING PRIONS

Described is a method of producing non-infectious pharmaceutical preparations and/or foodstuffs from starting material which may be infected, in particular with prions. The starting material is freed from infections components merely by filtering it repeatedly through an ultra-filtration membrane and/or a series of ultra-filtration membranes. The method is particularly suitable for removing so-called slow viruses such as that causing spongiform encephalopathy.
