The cover comprises a flexible sheet (12), which, with the exception of an opened area (19), locates directly on the deposit, the earth or similar over its entire surface. Preferable, gas outlet conduits lie beneath the sheet, which conduct the gas occurring in the rubbish (7) into an area outside the sheet. The conduits are connected with a suction pump, and are surrounded by cylindrical tubes with seals. Gravel lies between the conduits and tubes. The sheet is anchored to the rubbish or to the ground on which it lies, and its opened area is limited by embankments.
