PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording and reproducing device in which a space of a corner part of a driving device is efficiently utilized and which can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a synthesis separation element 5 in which a light beam 3a from a first light emitting and light receiving unit 3 is reflected, on the other hand, the light beam 3a and a light beam 4a are synthesized at almost same light path by transmitting the light beam 4a from a second light emitting and light receiving unit 4, while reflected light from a first disk 9 or second disk 10 is separated so as to go toward the first light emitting and light receiving unit 3 or the second light emitting and light receiving unit 4. Also, the first light emitting and light receiving unit 3 is arranged so that an angle A between an optical axis of the light beam 3a being made incident on the synthesis and separation element 5 and an optical axis of the light beam 3a emitted from the synthesis and separation element 5 is less than 90 degrees. Thereby, the first and the second light emitting and receiving units can be approached to a corner part of a drive mechanism relatively comparing with the case in which that angle is 90 degrees. Also, in this case, an empty space of the corner part can be effectively utilized. |
