<p>PURPOSE:To remove HC, CO, or NOx being unburnt gas components, as well as particles whose main component is carbon by carredly applying an exhaust- gas purifying catalyst to the purifying gas flow passage side of the porous wall of a filter body that is made up of a relatively thin porous wall. CONSTITUTION:A filter element 51 is made up of a platelike body 52 whose material is gas-permeable porous ceramics. In a pair of opposite end surfaces 53, 54 (not shown) different from the main surfaces of the platelike body 52, a plurality of holes 55 penetrating the platelike body are formed. In the end peripheral parts of the platelike body 52, ribs 58 projected in the perpendicular direction to the axes of the holes 55 are extendedly provided along the end surfaces. On the purifying gas flow passage side of the platelike body 52, or on the other circumferential side thereof, an oxidizing catalyst consisting of titanium and palladium for oxidizedly purifying unburnt components is carriedly applied. Thus, harmful components such as hydrocarbon, CO, and NOx being unburnt gas components of fuel and lubricating oil as well as particles whose main component is carbon are continuously and stably removed from the exhaust gas being exhausted from a diesel engine, so that they can be purified.</p> |
