A lip (5L) is formed on the body (5C) of the sealing joint, extending to one side of the body to define a contacting surface (5T) which seals against a radial surface (1AM) of another component. The lip is flexible to ensure a sealing contact with a dimensional tolerance of the order of several centimetres. The seal is toroidal in shape, of predetermined diameter relative to other components, and has a cross-sectional profile such that its centre of gravity lies within the body of the seal or close to it. The seal is formed of an alloy material, for example a nickel-chrome alloy such as NC19FeNb.
