PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a closed type hydride secondary battery having a high energy density, a good cycle property, and high liquid leakage resistance. SOLUTION: In this closed type hydride secondary battery comprising a positive electrode 1 containing nickel hydroxide as an active material, a negative electrode 2 containing a hydrogen storage alloy as an active material, an aqueous alkaline solution as an electrolytic solution, and a separator 3, the energy density is controlled so as to satisfy the following: Y>14.5X+26.2 (Y is the energy density and X is the outer diameter of the battery can) and the amount of the electrolytic solution per theoretical capacity of the positive electrode 1 is controlled to be 1.4 cc/Ah or higher and reversible type safety valves 10, 11 are installed while their operation pressure being controlled at 21-35 kg/cm<2> . |
