PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the peak value of discharge current with brightness hardly changed, and reduce the cost of a drive circuit and defective display, by impressing a pulse, which rises preceding a pulse impressed on a first or a second electrode and falls quickly after completion of discharge generated by the impressed pulse, to a specific electrode. SOLUTION: A pulse rising from OV a little preceding respective maintenance pulses and after the lapse of about 1 μs, falling to OV again is impressed on a set W of first row electrodes. By setting voltage after rising of discharge accelerating pulse to be a sufficiently small value than discharge starting voltage between the row electrode W and a line electrode, in a cell to which wall charge is not written in adress term, namely in a cell in which maintenance discharge is not performed, discharge between the row electrode W and the line electrode is not generated. Further because the wall change accumulated since falling of the discharge accelerating pulse is utilized, the voltage value after rising of the discharge accelerating pulse can be restrained to be low. |
