Solid ink printing plate

The solid ink original printing plate has dots on the surface of a substrate, representing the text and images to be printed. An ink, solid at room temps., is melted and sprayed on to the substrate to form the dots, using an ink with a penetration index of not more than 5 at room temp. The bonded dots have a ratio of dot height to the value of the side axis of 0.025-1.0, for the image side ratio, or 0.05-0.5. The ratio of the main dot axis to the side axis is preferably <= 1.5, for the image side ratio on the same plane. The dot, bonded to the substrate, has a min. side axis of not less than 10 mu m, and a min. contact angle of 15 deg or at least 20 deg . The molten sprayed ink has a viscosity of 10-30 mPa.s and a surface tension of 15-35 mN/m. The ink has a carrier ingredient used in conjunction with a solubility parameter of 8.5-10.0, meeting the Fedor equation, in a vol. of not less than 95 wt% of the carrier ingredient. The solid ink contains carnauba wax. The sprayed layer is applied to an intermediate layer, to give the required text and image for transfer to the substrate.
