PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin polarizing separating device splitting natural light into two polarization components having a different polarization direction and emitting two polarization components in mutually different directions. SOLUTION: A polarizing separating element 45 is constituted by sticking a member obtained by the vapour deposition of polarizing separating film 42 on the slant face of a first prism 41 and a second prism 43 by a transparent adhesive 46. Plural polarizing separating elements 45 are stuck and formed into a plate-like shape by the transparent adhesive 46. The refractive index of the second prism 43 is lower than that of the first prism 41. When the natural light is made incident on the first prism 41 along an optical axis, a P- polarization component is transmitted through the polarizing separating film 42 and is emitted in a direction deviated from the optical axis, and an S- polarization component is reflected by the polarizing separating film 42, and is reflected by the other polarizing separating film 42 adjacent and is emitted in a direction in parallel with the optical axis.
