The pincers comprise an arm which has an intermediate part coupled, with the possibility of sliding, on the intermediate part of another arm, which has a toothing located close to its end. On the arm there is a pawl (ratchet, dog) fixed in an articulated manner in order to mesh with the toothing, in such a manner that it ensures that the intermediate parts of the arms remain secured when the ends of the jaws are applied to the workpiece. The intermediate parts of the arms have no slots so that the robustness of said arms can be considerably increased. <IMAGE>
