The invention concerns a method and machines for forming the volume of a drum-shaped box (7) with polygonal cross-section from a first flat corrugated or solid fibreboard blank (3), wound around a mandrel with polygonal cross-section identical to that of the box, to form the can-band carton thereof and from a second flat blank to form the base cap. The invention is characterised in that the steps for forming the box consist in: positioning the blank on the mandrel making a so-called intermediate face coincide with one of its horizontal surfaces, folding the faces of the mandrel adjacent to said intermediate face around the mandrel longitudinal ridges and bonding the joining strap (22); and the operations of gluing, dehacking the second blank, gluing, folding in the appropriate place and pressing the base cap flaps, ejecting the box are carried out by the co-operation of a rotation in the vertical plane about a fixed horizontal axis, with fixed or controlled folding and pressing means, the assembled box being preferably ejected in the same plane as that in which the blanks are inserted. |
