PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow unskilled servicemen to picture-process an object original in an excellent state and to adjust an image properly. SOLUTION: A cross reference table that cross-references in advance the image quality sorts of an image to be picture-processed and control parameters as control factors for image quality adjustment are provided in an operation section 24 of a digital copying machine 10. The control parameters of the cross reference table are an image quality mode, a filter coefficient, filter strength,γ, and elimination of isolated point or the like. The image quality sorts are a silver-salt photograph, an automobile inspection certificate, set-off, newspaper, FAX, a background, and low contrast or the like. The respective control parameters are selected and combined optimally. Since the optimal control parameters are selected simply by serviceman's designating an image quality sort on the operation section 24, the image is properly and easily adjusted even by the unskilled.
