A device (1) for absorbing shocks incorporates at least one non-deformable support (3) destined to receive on its outer surface (6) at least one plastically deformable element (2), the support (3) preferably comprises at each of its external parts (4) a retaining system (5) for the deformable element (2). The deformable element (2) is fixed on a part of its length to the support (3) by the retaining system (5) , the part of the deformable element not fixed by this retaining system (5) is wound on the outer surface (6) of the support (3) and is in contact with this latter by forming some turns (7) in a manner to present an instantaneous resistant force essentially constant under the effect of a traction exerted on the device (1).
