The lamp shunt circuit has connected across each lamp filament (1), a circuit (5,6) including a triac which bridges the lamp. The triac is triggered by a diac. The heat generated by the triac as it diverts the lamp current causes a normally open thermostat to close, bridging the filament and diverting the current from the triac.
