PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the strains or breakages of a load support in such an environment that the support is exposed to a high magnetic field under superconducting condition. SOLUTION: A coated optical fiber 5 is embedded in an FRP member 1 which constitutes a load support. A silicon resin or ultraviolet cured resin can be used for coating the optical fiber 5, and an epoxy resin or thermoplastic resin can be used for fixing the fiber 5. An optical unit is provided on the outside of the load support in a non-contacting state, and the light which leaks out of the damaged part of the optical fiber 5 is detected. When this load support is used, the strains and breakages of the optical fiber 5 can detect electromagnetic noise, the deterioration of the fiber 5 can be prevented, and then the adhesive strength between the fiber 5 and the resin can be secured by means of the coating. In addition, the load actually applied to the load support during the operation of a magnet can be known by correcting the light quantity variation in the fiber 5 with the deformation of the support. |
