The protective armour comprises an outer covering layer (3) and an inner filler layer (2), joined to the armour surface (1) via an additional layer (4). The filler layer is of a material with a good flow tendency, in a porous foam, powder or gel form, preferably of graphite or other porous granular material between 2 and 10 cm thick. It can be reinforced with glass fibres and/or covering layers of glass balls. It can be a material which is easily inflammable and burns quickly, eliminating oxygen or giving off abundant gases.
