To form a continuous rigid tube, for container bodies, two layers (C1, C2) of web materials are drawn from rolls and cut to length to be wound singly or multiply round a mandrel (13). The first layer (C1) is laid and shaped while dry and cold. The second layer (C2) is wrapped and bonded round the tube formed by the first layer, so that their joints (6, 7) are offset by 180 deg . The inner layer (C1) is of paper, cardboard or a barrier material. The outer layer (C2) is paper or cardboard with a label. The second layer material, drawn from a roll, has a width to cover the wound tube formed by the first layer, and in a length of the tube to be formed. The two layers are themselves of ply layers. The first layer has a ply with an adhesive for bonding a barrier ply which is wider to form a sealed joint at the tube. The second layer has a ply of the same material as the first ply of the first layer, and its outer ply is the label which covers the joint. The barrier ply is of paper, with an extruded barrier film coating such as of wax, resin or varnish. The two layers can be in a single ply, or the first ply in each layer is of cardboard. The joints of the two layers are offset by 135-180 deg . |
